HARIDWAR: Devotees in large numbers took a holy bath in the Ganga river at Harki Pauri on the occasion of the moon eclipse on Saturday. They also chanted 'mantras' during the eclipse on the banks of the Ganga and other holy places of the city.
Meanwhile, Ganga Sabha performed Ganga Aarti before the eclipse and closed the doors of temples.
Secretary of Ganga Sabha, Ujjawal Pandit, said, “During the eclipse, no prayers are performed in the temple.
The gates of the temple are closed. However, devotees take a bath in the Ganga river. They will bathe again once the moon eclipse period is over. Ganga Aarti was performed at 3.50pm on Saturday.”
Chanting mantras at Harki Pauri, a devotee from UP, Ashok Pal, said that it is a special time for praying by chanting mantras. He took a bath in the Ganga river and will again take a bath in the early hours of Sunday morning, he said.
