Dehradun: With a series of murders reported recently in Dehradun, members of the opposition Congress staged a protest outside the city's police headquarters on Saturday.Demanding immediate steps to prevent the crime incidents, Congress raised questions over police role, as the two recent murders were reported close to the PHQ, which is the office of the DGP Uttarakhand and other senior cops.

In a memorandum addressed to DGP, the Congress stated for some time now, murders and serious criminal incidents were taking place in broad daylight in various districts, including Dehradun, creating an atmosphere of fear, insecurity and concern among residents.State Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal warned the govt that "if the state's law and order is not brought back on track and the continuous murders are not curbed, the Congress party will be forced to launch an aggressive movement."Congress workers marched from the state Congress office to the police headquarters under the leadership of Godiyal. He added that incidents of murders that occurred in the capital and other major cities of Uttarakhand, shook the entire state. "It is unfortunate that the criminals' morale is high and fear of law appears to be negligible," Godiyal said.Congress MLA Pritam Singh said that such incidents are not only raising questions on the state's law and order but also eroding the state's social peace and citizens' trust.
