DEHRADUN: Chief minister Harish Rawat on Friday said

Indian administrative officers

should be ready to face new challenges on different fronts like

dealing with disasters

and boosting development in the fast changing

hill state of Uttarakhand

.

Addressing an inaugural session of

Uttarakhand IAS

officers week at Secretariat, Rawat asked them to “change their style of function” with the fast changing world for better governance. “In today’s society, we cannot afford to ignore anyone. “So, officers will have to seek the cooperation from different sections of the society to give impetus to development,” he said.

Rawat asked young administrative officers to ensure that they regularly visit far-flung and economically backward places to interact with people to listen to their problems and take steps accordingly for development in the region.

“While there are many young administrative officers who have been rendering their services in the far off places, more people should take interest in serving the backward areas which lacks development,” the CM said.

He said that in the wake of cut-throat competition among different states to become a progressive part of India, it has become mandatory for every region to leave a mark on one front or the other.

Rawat also asked IAS officers to come out of their “mental block” to mix up with maximum number of people, including media persons to render better services.

He said that since bureaucracy is the backbone of the state, officers need to work hard to improve governance. “IAS officers may have their own style of working but they should not forget that ultimately it is public perception which matters,” Rawat said.
