Child rights body sends notice to school in Dehradun

Dehradun: The state commission for protection of

child rights

(SCPCR) on Saturday sent a notice to Dehradun-based Pestle Weed School for allegedly terminating the admission of two brothers studying in Class VII and VIII and then denying them transfer certificates and mark sheets.

A written statement by Bhumika Yadav, the mother of children, Anmol Yadav and Viraj Yadav, who were studying in the school since 2013, said, “The school authorities contacted me during summer vacations and told me to not send my children to school until I deposit their fees.” Bhumika said that she couldn’t deposit the first school fee installment due to her financial situation. “I went to the school authorities to urge them to give me some more time and allow both Anmol and Viraj to attend classes but the school refused my pleas outright,” Bhumika wrote.

The school officials, meanwhile, said that the admission of the elder child, Anmol was terminated earlier as Rs 91,370 of his fee amount is due. “Anmol’s admission was cancelled in 2017. And as far as the younger child is concerned, we have already given him a scholarship of Rs 90,000 and have asked his parents to clear the due amount,” said Pestle Weed’s chairperson, Prem Kashyap. He added that they have sent relevant documents to the SCPCR and will present their case before the commission on September 16.
