ROORKEE: A 9-year-old boy was killed when a stray bullet hit him during alleged celebratory firing at a wedding function in a village in Haridwar district on late Saturday night.
Police said the incident occurred in Lalchandwala village of Khanpur area. Rehan Ahmed, a resident of the village, and his son, Wasim Rehan were attending a pre-wedding event of one Firoz there.
Police said the incident occurred in Lalchandwala village of Khanpur area. Firoz, son of Azad, was set to be married on Sunday in Roorkee. A pre-wedding event was being held at their house on Saturday which was attended by Rehan Ahmed, a resident of the village, and his son, Wasim Rehan.
Amid the music and dancing, someone opened fire and the bullet struck the 9-year-old Wasim. He was rushed to hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Police said the groom's family members went into hiding.

SP (Rural) Swapn Kishore said Ahmed filed a complaint against the groom and his father. He alleged that multiple firearms were being bradished at the event. Police, however, claimed it was unclear what type of firearm was used in the celebratory firing.
“We are investigating the case from multiple angles and will apprehend the culprits soon,” said Singh, adding no arrests have been made in the case so far.
