. Connectivity in the area was disrupted due to the accident. The injured people are now said to be out of danger.

The incident took place when a truck carrying an excavator machine from Dharchula to Pangla was passing the bridge. The load proved to be too much for the bridge, as it gave way.

District information officer Girija Shankar Joshi told TOI that two persons, including the truck driver, were injured in the accident. While the driver was identified as 40-year-old Surendra Kumar from Punjab, his helper was identified as Naveen Singh, 32, a resident of Himachal Pradesh. “Both the driver and his helper were taken to Primary Health Centre, Dharchula, for first aid, from where they were taken to the district hospital in Pithoragarh. Their situation is out of danger,” Joshi said.

After the bridge collapsed, people built a makeshift bridge over the river as it has shallow water at this time of the year.
