DEHRADUN: Over 200 personnel of the army and Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) practised asanas in Mana village, about 10,000 feet above the sea level and close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), to mark the International Yoga Day on Tuesday.

Both the army and the ITBP are deployed in Mana area and it is the last major post enroute to Mana Pass. The army also conducted special Yoga session in Joshimath and Dehradun Cantonment. “We received a tremendous response and all the preparation had been done at the helipad of Mana village,” an armyman said.
The army had made special preparations for the event and the entire programme was conceptualised by the Garhwal Scouts station at Joshimath. A yoga trainer, Havaldar Komal Singh of Joshimath unit, was roped in for the event.

“We had decided to hold the event at the last village and we chose the helipad because there was no other place where two hundred people could sit together,” said another army official. He added that it was for the first time that Yoga event has taken place in Mana village. “The idea was to organise the event at a place where the ground conditions are tough,” said the official.
