DEHRADUN: While the Kedarnath yatra is witnessing a turnout of pilgrims in excess of 20,000 per day, an avalanche occurred near Sumeru ki Pahadi around 7.15am on Thursday.

The area where the avalanche was reported is around 3.5km ahead of the revered shrine.

The avalanche had no impact on the yatra as it continued without any disturbance.

Rudrapayag's district disaster management officer Nandan Singh Rajwar told TOI, "The avalanche hit around 3.5km ahead of Kedarnath temple on Chorabari Taal route. Such avalanches have been reported earlier and it was not serious in nature and had no impact on the annual pilgrimage."
