DEHRADUN: The speculations doing rounds over the new Director General of Police for Uttarakhand has finally ended as 1987-batch IPS officer Anil Kumar Raturi was named the new police chief of the Himalayan state. He replaces M A Ganapathy, who has been appointed Additional Director General of
Central Industrial Security Force.
Raturi would take charge as the tenth DGP of the state on July 24.
After ratification by Governor K K Paul, the Home department issued the orders in this regard.
A BA honours and MA English Literature from University of Delhi, Raturi did his Convent of Jesus and Mary, Hampton Court and St. George’s College Mussoorie. Having being awarded with the prestigious President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service- 2011, Raturi has represented the country in the International Roller Hockey Championship at Cairo, Egypt in 1983.
In his three decades of service, Raturi has held several key positions in Uttarkahand including ADG Administration, ADG law and order, DGP (Rules and Manuals) and Director Vigilance.
A 1965 batch IPS Ashok Kumar Saran was the first DGP of the state and his successor was Prem Dutt Raturi, who took over charge on April 30, 2002 and was on the post till June 15, 2004. A 1973 batch IPS officer Kanchan Choudhary Bhattacharya, who was the first woman DGP of the country, held the position from June 15, 2004 to October 31, 2007. Subhash Joshi was the state’s fourth DGP who held the post from October 31, 2007 to July 15, 2010.
A 1976 batch IPS Jyoti Swaroop Pandey was the fifth DGP from July 28, 2010 to April 12, 2012. The sixth DGP was Vijay Raghav Pant who held the position from April 13, 2012 to September 30, 2012. Satyavrat Bansal was the seventh DGP from September 30, 2012 to September 30, 2013. The eighth DGP of the state was 1979 batch IPS officer B S Sidhu and his tenure was from September 30, 2013 to April 30 ,2016.
M A Ganapathy, a 1986-batch IPS officer, became the ninth DGP on April 30, 2016 and his tenure is all set to come to an end on July 24.
