Adopt an animal in Dehradun Zoo and get income tax rebate

will now be able to claim tax rebate on the donation amount, zoo authorities have said. P K Patro, director of the zoo, said that the zoo has written to the the income tax department to allow them to issue tax rebate certificates.

Patro said, "Donations to adopt an animal are eligible for income tax rebates under Section 80 G of the Income Tax Act." Patro added, "

already allow donors to claim tax rebates. People who adopt animals at Dehradun Zoo can also avail themselves of these benefits after we start issuing rebate certificates." Dehradun Zoo started its adopt an animal programme from October last year.

At present, the zoo houses two leopards, 80 deer, birds of exotic varieties, vultures and other species. Many people have adopted leopards, golden pheasant, macau, amu, owl and deer and pay for their food and maintenance. In March, the zoo had announced that it would soon invite bids for animal adoption online. The highest bidder would get adoption rights for a year.
