9 dead as jeep falls in gorge in Uttarakhand's Champawat district

DEHRADUN: Nine people died when a jeep in which they were travelling in fell into a gorge at

Chalkhi area

of

Champawat district

on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle was on its way to Pithoragarh from Tanakpur.

Till now, eight bodies were taken out of the gorge and rescue operation was going on, police said.



Expressing grief over the mishap,

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat

has ordered a magisterial probe into the accident.
