RUDRAPUR: The clueless US Nagar police is still groping in the dark for searching a lead on businessman Ravish Kumar Garg, who was kidnapped eight days back from Sisauna village in Sitarganj when he was on way back to his home on May 19.
Accusing police of inaction, traders in Sitarganj have called ‘band’ twice within a week, while police have asked for two more days to crack the case.
When Garg, owner of a cement and hardware shop at Sisauna market, who was on his way back home at Ramleela Maidan colony on a scooty on May 19, did not reach home till late in the night, worried relatives tried to contact him on his mobile, but it was responding switch off. Soon, they informed police who found Garg’s scooty and his flip flops in Baruabagh area.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and special operation group (SOG) with forensic team were called to investigate the matter. Witnesses, however, told police that Garg was abducted some motorcycle-borne people.
Speculations are rife that the kidnapping was a result of some old rivalry, and not for ransom.
Police officials said they were looking at all angles and business rivalry too could not be ruled out.
US Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sadanand Date said a multi-agency search was on and police were about to crack the case. “Following tip-off regarding miscreants, police teams have been dispatched to different locations. We will ensure safe recovery of the victim, and the culprits will be nabbed soon.”
District president of traders’ union Rajesh Bansal said, “Law and order situation in US Nagar is worst and nobody is safe. We earnestly appeal to chief minister T S Rawat to get the businessman back.”
Pointing a figure at police functioning, former minister Tilak Raj Behar said, “It’s condemnable that a businessman was kidnapped in a broad daylight, and police are clueless even after a week.”
