7 pilgrims from Delhi injured in car accident in Haridwar
Haridwar: Seven pilgrims from Delhi were injured, one of them critically, after their car met with an accident near the Premnagar Ashram flyover in Haridwar on Monday. The critically injured person was shifted to a higher centre for treatment.
City SP Abhay Singh told TOI, “The injured — Neelam Singh (39), Jaiprakash (55), Kishore Kumar (47), Vinod Kumar (40), Sarvesh Devi (55), Satya Prakash (60), and Rajbahadur (58) — are residents of Delhi's Tughlakabad and Kalkaji areas. Rajbahadur was driving the car.”
The group was travelling to attend a Bhagwat Katha event in Kankhal area of Haridwar, said Singh.
Police said the accident occurred when a truck moving ahead suddenly applied the brakes, causing the car to lose control and crash into it. Authorities said a badly stationed oil tanker on the flyover may have also contributed to the accident.
Police and emergency response teams, including the City Patrol Unit (CPU) and traffic police, reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Ambulances from the 108 emergency service and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) later assisted in transporting the victims to Mela Hospital.
