NAINITAL/DEHRADUN: Eight people, including seven Nepalese nationals, died as their vehicle plunged into a 150-foot-deep gorge in Nainital district, Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

The incident occurred near Betalghat, leaving two Nepalese individuals injured.

After receiving information about the accident, a State Disaster Response Team (SDRF) swiftly arrived at the scene.
The SDRF team along with locals and police personnel retrieved eight bodies. The injured were rushed to the hospital.

The vehicle was carrying nine Nepalese nationals, all residents of Mahendranagar. They were headed home when the accident took place. The driver, Rajendra Kumar, who was among those killed, was a resident of Betalghat.

Expressing condolences over the loss of lives, Uttarakhand chief minister posted Pushkar Singh Dhami posted on X "I received the sad news of eight people being, who were killed in a road accident in Nainital district. I pray to God to grant peace to the souls of the departed and strength to the bereaved family to bear this pain. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured. Om Shanti."
