RUDRAPUR: Despite repeated instructions from director general of police (DGP) Deepam Seth and senior district officials to promote a people-friendly and responsive policing culture, several police officers across Kumaon continue to ignore the mandate. 30 inspectors and sub-inspectors from various districts now face serious allegations of misconduct, with many cases under review by District Police Complaint Authority (DPCA).
In the latest complaint from Chorgalia, a woman accused the local outpost in-charge of protecting a man who allegedly drove her husband to suicide. Months have passed, she claimed, but no investigation has begun. A separate case from Pantnagar involves a street vendor who says he was slapped and abused by a cop in front of his children. He lodged complaints, but no action followed
"We take every complaint seriously and ensure both parties are heard before arriving at a conclusion," said BS Martolia, District Police Complaint Authority member.
