DEHRADUN: Three government hospitals of Uttarakhand have received NQAS (National Quality Assurance Standards) certification recently. This is for the first time that hill-based government hospitals have received the NQAS certification for better facilities.

Champawat District Hospital, BD Pandey District Hospital, Nainital and Roorkee Sub-District Hospital have achieved over 70% targets during inspections conducted by a senior doctors' team from the Union health ministry, as per the health department.

The secretary of health department R Rajesh Kumar said that six departments of Champawat District Hospital, have been awarded for meeting targets of OPD, blood bank, maternity ward, pharmacy and general administration while the labour room and maternity OT has also been felicitated with Lakshya award, a quality improvement initiative started in 2018 which aims to ensure quality of care during intrapartum and immediate post-partum period in labour room and maternity OT.

Similarly, at BD Pandey and Sub-District Hospital, Roorkee, seven departments have achieved the targets while their labour and maternity OTs have also won the Lakshya award.
