Rudrapur: Three Nepalese nationals, including a woman, accused of stealing jewellery worth nearly Rs 5 crore from a businessman’s house in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli area were arrested while allegedly trying to flee to Nepal through Uttarakhand, police said. The arrests were made during a joint operation by Udham Singh Nagar police and UP police after Telangana police shared a late-night alert about the suspects’ movement.Police sources said a senior IPS officer from Telangana informed Udham Singh Nagar SSP Ajay Ganapati that the accused in the high-value theft were likely travelling towards the Indo-Nepal route through Uttarakhand. “We received a late-night input that the suspects involved in the Hyderabad jewellery theft were moving towards Nepal through Uttarakhand. Teams were immediately activated,” a police officer said.Acting on the input, Ganapati mobilised Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police teams and launched a coordinated checking drive along the Rudrapur-Bilaspur border during the night. “All vehicles and passengers moving towards the border route were checked. The operation was monitored on the ground and teams were asked to ensure that the suspects did not cross towards Nepal,” an officer said.
During the checking, police identified a bus in which the suspects were travelling and intercepted them in Bilaspur area of Rampur district in UP, where they were allegedly trying to evade arrest and move towards Nepal. Police recovered jewellery worth several crores from the accused, suspected to be part of the stolen property from Hyderabad.Since the bus was stopped within the jurisdiction of Bilaspur police station, the recovery and legal proceedings were carried out by UP police under due procedure. Officials said Telangana police would verify the recovered jewellery and complete further investigation into the theft.SSP Ganapati said the operation showed the importance of quick intelligence-sharing and coordination between states. “The successful action was the result of close cooperation between Telangana Police, Udham Singh Nagar Police and Rampur Police,” he said. Officials said the investigation would now focus on verifying the recovered jewellery, tracing the full route taken by the accused after the theft and examining whether more persons helped them escape towards Nepal.
