3 dead as car falls in canal in Haridwar

HARIDWAR/ RUDRAPUR: Three local youths were killed on Friday late night after the car they were travelling in fell into a canal under Jwalapur police station jurisdiction on Haridwar-Delhi highway . The victims were returning from a party when the driver lost control of the vehicle, said the police.
The deceased have been identified as Prabhat Chauhan, 31, Jhony alias Umakant Upadhyay, 30, and Sachin Chauhan, 31, all residents of Dheerwali of Jawalapur police station.

SHO Jwalapur police station Majoj Mainwal said, “The driver lost control and the car hit a pole before falling into a canal. After receiving information of the incident, a rescue team reached the spot and fished out the car with the help of a crane. Three bodies were recovered from the car. The bodies have been sent to the district hospital for autopsy.”
Police also recovered a liquor bottle from the car and is trying to ascertain if the victims were in an inebriated state.
Meanwhile, two persons died in separate accidents in district Udham Singh Nagar, the police said on Saturday.
In the first incident, a 55-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a speeding train near Chhatarpur village in the city on Saturday. Locals informed the police after spotting the victim’s body. The deceased was identified as Suresh Raj. The kin of the deceased told the police that he left his house after a fight with his family in the morning. His mobile phone was found to be switched off. Cops suspect it to be a case of suicide. However, no suicide note was found with the victim.
In yet another incident, a 45-year-old man was killed after he got stuck in a loader machine at a stone crusher located in Peerumadara area. The man, identified as Mahendra Singh, a resident of Rampur (UP) was rushed to the civil hospital in Kashipur but he succumbed to his injuries. His body has been sent for autopsy and a probe has been launched in the matter. Police officials said that they are investigating if the security arrangements at the crusher were compromised.
