RUDRAPUR: Two men were killed, and four others injured on Wednesday night when their car collided with an unoccupied tractor-trolley on Haldwani Road near Sanjay Van. Police have identified the deceased as Shashank Suyal (27) and Vinod Tiwari (38), both residents of Awas Vikas Colony in Rudrapur.
Suyal was driving the car, a Duster, as they were returning home when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the tractor-trolley at around 9pm. The collision was so severe that the car was reduced to mangled debris. Suyal and Tiwari died on the spot.
Four other occupants of the car—Kamal Bhatt, Umesh Bhatt, Ashish Kumar, and Aman Arya—sustained injuries but were promptly rescued as the accident occurred near the railway gate and emergency responders could reach them on time. Umesh, who suffered critical injuries, has been referred to a higher medical center, while the others are undergoing treatment at the JL Nehru district hospital.
SP (city) Uttam Singh Negi said, "We are investigating the accident to determine its cause. Preliminary findings indicate overspeeding as a likely factor."
