ROORKEE/MUZAFFARNAGAR: Two kanwariyas were killed and 14 injured in separate road accidents in Haridwar and Muzaffarnagar, respectively, on Saturday. In the first incident, the two kanwariyas, who were brothers, were riding on a bike with another devotee in Haridwar’s Manglaur area. Their speeding bike crashed into a truck ahead. Amit, 18, is critical and has been referred to a higher medical centre for treatment. The brothers, Manvendra, 38 and Amit, 32, died on the spot.

Fourteen kanwariyas were injured after the canter they were travelling in overturned on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in Muzaffarnagar on Saturday morning. The accident occurred when the vehicle’s tyre burst, causing it to go out of control.

DSP (Khatauli) Ramashish Yadav said, “All injured are out of danger and are being treated at a hospital.”

Meanwhile, a group of kanwariyas created a ruckus at a dhaba in Muzaffarnagar on Friday after being served food containing onion and garlic. The incident took place when the kanwariyas, who were going towards Meerut from Haridwar, stopped at the roadside restaurant and ordered food without garlic and onion. However, due to some confusion, food with onion and garlic was served to them, SP (City) Satyanarayan Prajapat said, adding they were pacified by police.
