2 dead, 3 injured as jeep falls into gorge

DEHRADUN: In yet another accident in the killer roads of Uttarakhand, two people were killed and three others injured after a utility jeep carrying five passengers fell into a 250-metre-deep gorge on the Kalsi-Chakrata road on Thursday. The three injured were rushed to a nearby hospital and their condition is said to be stable.

According to eye-witnesses, boulders fell on the road after heavy rain near Shahiya Jajred area. The driver identified as Ravi Kumar saw the boulders and tried to reverse the vehicle but lost control and the jeep fell into the gorge.

The two deceased have been identified as Bhagi Ram (22) and Tara Dutt (40), both residents of Kharoda village in Tiuni area of Dehradun district. The three injured were driver Ravi Kumar, 27, Bhartu Ram, 52, and Ganesh Chandra Dimri, 26. All three injured are residents of Kharoda village.
