HARIDWAR: An 18-year-old girl and an accomplice were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of the former's grandmother. Archna Sharma (63) was murdered in Chaklan area under Jwalapur police station limits on Tuesday.
According to police, the victim's granddaughter, Bhumika, (name changed) had a relationship with a boy and stole money from the house to give him. When her grandmother found out about, she informed Bhumika's father. An upset Bhumika allegedly planned her grandmother's murder by reportedly blackmailing one of the accused, Udit Jha, with explicit pictures and videos of him and his girlfriend. Both Bhumika and Jha were arrested.
SSP Haridwar, Pramindra Dobal said, "Jha hit the victim on the head with a hammer as Archna was alone as the family was at Har-ki-Pauri on Ganga Saptami on May 14." Police collected CCTV footage and are probing the role of Bhumika's boyfriend in the murder.
