MUSSOORIE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mussoorie’s Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) on Thursday afternoon as part of a two-day visit to the hill state.
He interacted with the faculty and 360 officer trainees of the 92nd Foundation course in four groups of A, B, C and D, which lasted for nearly four hours. The PM urged the officer trainees to express their ideas and thoughts frankly and fearlessly. A variety of subjects such as administration, governance, technology and policy-making came up during the discussion. He also encouraged them to study and research governance issues in depth, so to understand them better.
While sharing his personal experiences, he stressed on the need for them to develop a national vision.
On the second day of his Uttarakhand visit, Modi will take part in a yoga session with the probationers and Kendriya Vidyalaya students at the academy. He will also lay foundation stone of a new hostel building and a 200-m multifunctional synthetic track in the foyer of the Sampoornanand Audutorium.
This is the PM’s second visit to the hill state in less than seven days. He was in Uttarakhand on October 20 ahead of the Kedarnath shrine’s closure for the next six months. He also laid the foundation stones of reconstruction projects worth Rs 700 crore at Kedarnath.
He was first welcomed by governor K K Paul, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and senior BJP leaders at Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport. At Mussoorie, former mayor O P Uniyal gifted the PM Ganesh Saili’s book Mussoorie Medley. Uniyal urged the PM to look into “a framework for a mini train” and requested him to survey the three acres in Mussoorie to be used as a tourism hub.
Also present to greet the PM were MLA MUssoorie, Ganesh Joshi, Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall, MLA Tehri, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, DGP Uttarakhand, Anil Raturi and dignitaries from LBSNAA among others.
After addressing the probationers, the PM paid tributes to the statues of Lal Bahadur Shastri and Sardar Vallabhai Patel. He also planted a sapling in the director’s lawn at LBSNAA. Following which, he interacted with faculty members of the academy and spent some time at the Gandhi Smriti Library.
A cultural programme, ‘Indradhanush’, was organized by the probationers and a knowledge management portal was launched.
Meanwhile, everyone is on their toes following director Upma Chawdhry’s instruction to all the staff and regular visiting experts to know the basics about the academy for PM’s visit. “She doesn’t want anyone to look blank just in case the PM asks anyone any question about the academy,” shares a source.
