CUTTACK: A fast-track special court here on Monday sentenced two men, one aged 36 and another 68, to life imprisonment for the gang-rape of a teenager three years ago in Cuttack district.
The presiding judge, P K Das, who pronounced the verdict, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the two convicts and said that the fine amount, if realised, be paid to the victim. The judge further ordered a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the rape survivor ‘in view of the age of the survivor at the time of occurrence and the mental trauma caused to her and her family’. The incident took place on January 16, 2021, when the rape survivor’s parents, both of whom are labourers, had gone out for work, leaving their daughter alone at home. The convicts, who are from the same village, entered their house and raped the girl. They came back the next day and raped her again.
The trial in the case was taken up based on an FIR lodged by the girl’s mother on January 19, 2021. The two were arrested on January 21, 2021, and since then have been in jail.

TOI reported that kin and friends of the rape accused Dileshwar Bahe are pressurizing the survivor to withdraw her complaint. Balaghat police, under the guidance of SP Balaghat Saurabh Suman, have booked the accused under relevant sections of IPC after conducting a probe. The survivor will receive legal support.
