Tension prevails in Cuttack steel plant after labourer's death
CUTTACK: Tension prevailed at
The deceased
As news of death of the labourer spread, hundreds of villagers and workers of the plant staged a demonstration outside the steel plant demanding compensation for the deceased’s family.
“Manas was the only bread earner of his family. He has two daughters now who will feed them. He died due to negligence hence factory should provide proper compensation,” said Diwakar Das, an agitator.
“This is not the first such incident reported from the Aarti Steel Plant. Few months ago also a labourer had died in a mishap inside the factory premises. Stringent action should be taken to stop such accidents,” said
The agitators staged dharna outside the plant and blocked road. The agitators have blamed factory authorities negligence for death of Swain. Manas Swain(32), a native of Dwarabatipur, was standing in the factory premises when he was crushed under the tyre of a truck while driver was reversing the vehicle.
Looking at the tensed situation, police officials, district officials and plant authorities held discussion and had discussions with the agitators to pacify them. ”The steel plant authorities have assured to provide compensation to the bereaved family following which agitators have called off their protest,” said a police officer.
