Court extends restriction on jr teachers’ appt till January 30

Cuttack: The Orissa high court on Wednesday extended the restriction it had imposed on final selection and appointment of junior teachers in primary and upper primary schools till January 30. The court, while admitting a petition that challenged the draft merit list published by Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) on January 15, had imposed the restriction on January 19. Although the guidelines issued on August 22, 2023, on engagement of junior teachers provided for a district-wise draft merit list, OSEPA had published more of a state list without adhering to the procedure. The state government filed an affidavit claiming it had already prepared a district- and category-wise draft merit list across 30 districts. Justice Biraja Prasanna Satapathy asked whether OSEPA had recalled the district-wise merit list published on January 15. When the court was informed that it had not been withdrawn, Justice Satapathy directed the state government to file a reply to the affidavit and posted the matter to January 30 for further hearing.TNN

Final voters list of dist for general elections published

The district collector announced the publication of the final voters list for the upcoming general elections. The list includes 23,039 new voters who turned 18 years old on January 1, 2024. The list will be available to political parties and can be accessed through various channels, including local self-government institutions.
