HC to review ruling against ‘diversion’ of univ post

Cuttack: The Orissa high court has decided to review a single judge’s ruling against the diversion of a post of associate professor in chemistry reserved for women in Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, to a male applicant due to non-availability of a suitable candidate. Accordingly, the two-judge bench of acting Chief Justice B R Sarangi and Justice M S Raman in a recent order directed for maintaining status quo on the post meant for unreserved women category which was held by an unreserved male candidate.According to the case records, Niva Nayak challenged the rejection of her candidature and appointment of Pankaj Kumar Parhi in the post on August 14.TNN

Judges be allowed to decide on taking up post-retirement assignments: Justice Kaul

Former judges taking up post-retirement government assignments has sparked divided opinions. Ex-Supreme Court judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul believes judges should be allowed to decide for themselves. While there is no rule against it, the 14th Law Commission recommended against judges taking up government jobs after retirement. Some judges, like JS Khehar and RM Lodha, have declared they will not accept such assignments. However, the nomination of Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha and the appointment of P Sathasivam as Kerala governor have raised concerns.

Former Chhattisgarh high court judge appointed chief justice of Rajasthan

Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, the senior-most former puisne Judge from the Chhattisgarh High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. He was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court on October 18, 2021, and is currently functioning as the acting Chief Justice. Before his elevation as a High Court Judge, Justice Shrivastava practiced law at the district court in Raigarh (Chhattisgarh), the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, and the High Court of Chhattisgarh. His areas of practice included Constitutional, service, taxation, labor, and civil law. He was also designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Chhattisgarh.

MBA grad held for offensive posts against Pawar, Uddhav

Navi Mumbai police arrest MBA degree-holder Vishal Gorde from Ghatkopar for posting defamatory comments on social media against NCP chief Sharad Pawar, NCP MP Supriya Sule, ex-CM and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, NCP MLA Rohit Pawar, and UBT Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray. Gorde, arrested from his residence, is remanded in police custody. Gorde claims frustration due to unemployment and mental disturbance as reasons for his actions.
