HC asks OPSC secy to appear in dental surgeons’ hiring case

Cuttack: Orissa high court on Tuesday directed the secretary of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to personally appear before it on Aug 20 regarding recruitment of dental surgeons in Group-A (junior) category of Odisha Medical Services (Dental) cadre.The two-judge bench of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh and Justice Savitri Ratho said, “Taking into account the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case resulting out of revision in marks scored by aspirants for dental surgeon posts in the written examination, after recommendations were already made by the OPSC, it is desirable to direct the secretary, OPSC to appear before this court with all relevant records of the two results (pre-revised and post-revised).”The two-judge bench was hearing a writ petition filed by OPSC challenging an order in which a single judge had on Feb 23 directed the commission to recommend appointment of candidates who had secured more than the cut-off marks following revaluation after 12 answers were found to be incorrect.OPSC had issued an advertisement inviting applications for 198 posts of dental surgeons on Mar 17, 2018. The written examination with objective-type questions was conducted on May 6, 2018. OPSC issued a notice recommending appointment of 171 candidates on Aug 9, 2018.But trouble erupted when some of the unsuccessful candidates questioned their non-selection on various grounds, including incorrect answers. Based on certain representations made by the unsuccessful candidates to the OPSC, an expert committee was constituted to revisit the answers. The expert committee submitted its report on Oct 5, 2018 indicating that 12 answers were incorrect.Accordingly, the marks secured by candidates, including those recommended for appointment, were revised pursuant to the high court’s Feb 23 order.

The Odisha Public Service Commission announced the schedule for the PGT recruitment exams to be held in 2024 across five zones. Intake to med, dental courses from Aug 21

Admissions for medical and dental degree programmes in Goa were delayed due to the NEET controversy; the first round is now set between Aug 21 and 31. Dental student alleges acid attack threat from lovelorn pal

A 21-year-old dental student in Bengaluru alleged year-long harassment, assault, and acid attack threats by a friend claiming to love her. The accused, Mithun, reportedly harassed, manipulated, and physically abused her, threatening her family and her life. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
