Clear air on revised merit list of dental surgeons: HC to govt

Cuttack: Orissa high court on October 22 granted state govt time till Oct 30 to clarify the situation arising out of the revised merit list for dental surgeons in which 11 candidates in service on the recommendation of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) were placed lower than those with higher scores, who were not recommended. The two-judge bench of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh and Justice Savitri Ratho set the deadline after the state govt didn’t file a reply indicating its decision on the future of 11 dental surgeons.OPSC revised the merit list after a single-judge HC bench ordered on Feb 23, 2022, upon finding that an expert committee constituted by the commission, on receiving complaints, identified 12 incorrect answers.

The issue returned to the high court with OPSC filing a writ appeal on May 16 this year challenging the single judge’s order. During the course of the hearing, OPSC said 11 candidates who were appointed as dental surgeons on its recommendation secured marks below the revised cut-off after revision of the merit list. Accordingly, 8 new candidates found a place in the revised list. However, OPSC on Nov 4, 2022, sent a revised merit list with a recommendation to govt not to reject the 11 candidates already serving as dental surgeons. Taking serious note of it, HC on Sept 4 this year directed the OPSC chairman to convene a meeting and take a decision on what it proposes to do after persons of lower merit were found working as dental surgeons based on its recommendation, whereas those with higher scores were not recommended.Complying with the order, OPSC informed the court on Sept 12 that it decided to revoke its Nov 4, 2022, recommendation and recall the names of the 11 dental surgeons. Chief Justice Singh sought the response of state govt in light of the OPSC’s decision. When the state govt informed the court on Sept 26 that a committee of senior officials had been constituted to look into the circumstances arising out of OPSC’s recommendation, the bench posted the matter to Oct 22.

The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has released the merit list for the Odisha Civil Service Examination 2022. Candidates can check their results on the official OPSC website. The Main Examination and Personality Test concluded earlier this year, and 683 candidates were recommended for appointment subject to document verification.

OPSC postpones Civil Services preliminary exam 2024 amid cyclone Dana threat

The Odisha Public Service Commission has postponed the Odisha Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2023-24, initially set for October 27, 2024, due to Cyclone Dana. Revised exam dates will be announced after a week. Candidates should check opsc.gov.in for updates. The exam aims to fill 399 vacancies with a selection process including prelims, mains, and interviews.

The Odisha Public Service Commission has released admit cards for the 2023 Odisha Civil Services preliminary exam. Candidates can download their cards from the official website. The exam, the first step in the selection process, includes two papers, each worth 200 marks. Successful candidates will advance to the Mains examination.
