Orissa HC to stopregistration of bail pleas in filing section

Cuttack: In a bid to start paperless functioning of units dealing with bail applications, the Orissa High Court has decided to start movement of connected records of bail applications among connected sections for stamp reporting, bail and listing in paperless mode from January 1.According to official records, around 30,000 applications for bail and anticipatory bail are filed in the high court in a year. As part of the move, the high court will discontinue the practice of registration of applications in the filing section and listing section before subjecting them to scrutiny in the stamp reporting and respective judicial sections.In a standing order issued on Wednesday, the registrar (judicial) Suman Kumar Mishra said the cases filed with effect from January 1 will be first given diary numbers and then scrutinised by stamp reporters.Only if a case is found free from defects, it shall be registered by the filing section and a valid case number (different from the diary number) will be given.“If a case is found defective, the defect will be notified in the court’s website and the record will be retained in a separate section namely, Computer Filing (Defect Branch), and will wait for removal of defects by the concerned lawyer or the party-in-person till one month from the date of filing,” the December 27 standing order said.The order also said: “Defects may be removed before the Additional Deputy Registrar(s) and Assistant Registrar(s). If the defects in a case are removed within one month, the case will be registered by the Filing Section and a valid case number will be given. If the defects in a case are not removed within one month, the case will be dismissed by the Officers authorized in that behalf.”The Registrar (Judicial) further said: “Timelines are fixed for each stage from filing till listing so that the lawyers and litigants do not face harassment for delay at any stage.”

Delay in filing replies to applications irks court

The court of Faridkot additional sessions judge Rajiv Kalra expressed annoyance over the delay in filing replies to applications in the Behbal Kalan case. Mahinder Singh, father of Krishan Bhagwan Singh, who was allegedly killed in the police firing, filed an application to recall the order about granting pardon to the prime accused. The SIT has not yet responded to the application. The court also observed that the prosecution has not filed a reply to the application by accused Charanjit Singh Sharma for dropping the proceedings. The case was adjourned to January 20, 2024.

Trains to run faster in Pune-Lonavla section

Trains to run at 130 kmph in Pune-Lonavla section, reducing travel time between Pune and Mumbai. Maximum speed limit currently 110 kmph. Speed limit to be increased after OHE work. Trains to take 20-30 minutes less to reach Pune from Lonavla. 122 trains operate in the section. State government working on third and fourth lines. Plans to start new trains. Commuters prefer trains due to time and money savings. Expressway traffic a concern. Better facilities and timing desired.

Vigilance department completed investigation, sent report to government. OMR sheets revealed tampering, candidates were passed and selected. Examination conducted by UPPCL and UPRVUNL at multiple locations.
