Grant relaxation in upper age limit to ex-servicemen in jobs: HC to govt

Cuttack: A single-judge bench of the Orissa high court has directed the state govt to reconsider the upper age limit of 40 years for ex-servicemen and 45 years for in-service candidates applying for the post of assistant director.The observation came recently while considering the case of an ex-serviceman, who had challenged the disparity over the upper age limit fixed for the two categories. Santosh Adhikari, who served in the Indian Air Force, was found ineligible for the post as he was a year and six months above the upper age limit by the time Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) published the advertisement inviting applications for the post in 2021. Two posts, which were reserved for ex-servicemen, were not filled up. He filed the petition in high court in 2021. TNN

Captain Sukhjit Pal Kaur Sanewal (Retd) filed a petition before the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking the replacement of ex-serviceman with gender-neutral terms. The Army's initial batch of short service commissioned woman officers have pointed out the issue.
