Cuttack: In a bid to provide relief to passengers travelling on buses amid the scorching heat, Cuttack transport officials distributed bottles of oral rehydration solution (ORS) at Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT) on Saturday. Around 500 buses were covered, and the drive is set to last till the end of summer.
According to sources, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are reeling under intense heat, with the temperature hovering over 40°C during the daytime, making it difficult for people to undertake long-distance travel.
“A team of officials has been formed at the regional transport office in Cuttack. The officials have been engaged to spread awareness about staying hydrated and to distribute ORS among passengers of city buses,” said Biranchi Adhikari, regional transport officer, Cuttack.
The team, including the regional transport officer, has visited CNBT at Khannagar and spoken to bus drivers, conductors and passengers about the use of ORs to combat rising mercury levels.
“The team demonstrated the use of ORS while physically showing the mixing of water with the solution to passengers at the bus terminal. The solution is more beneficial than water for staying hydrated,” said Adhikari.
“The members of the bus association have been sensitised in this regard, and the ORS solution has been provided to each bus at the CNBT. Bus employees have been asked to provide them to passengers during travel,” he added.
