Odisha govt extends tenure of panel formed to probe chit fund scam

CUTTACK: State government on Saturday extended the tenure of Justice M M Das commission, probing into multi-crore chit fund scam, by next six months with effect from February 5.
A notification in this regard was released by the Home department on Saturday. Tenure of the commission was supposed to expire on Sunday. The commission had written to the state government to extend its tenure a month ago but it had not responded.
The commission was formed in July 2013 by state government to probe into the chit fund scam.

The inquiry commission has so far submitted four interim reports and identified over 1.16 lakh small investors, who has invested less than Rs 10,000 in the chit fund companies. The commission has recommended the state government to take measures for refund of money of the small investors on a priority basis.
