OAS officer held for possessing assets over ₹3 cr

Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested OAS officer Pradeep Kumar Sahu, who was the block development officer of Athagarh in Cuttack district, for alleged possession of disproportionate assets worth more than Rs 3 crore. This is said to be 132% in excess of his known sources of income.
Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches at eight places including Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. Six teams were engaged in carrying out the searches.
Vigilance unearthed moveable and immovable assets of Sahu, including two buildings in Bhubaneswar, a flat, three plots in Khurdha and Rajsunakhala Sahi in Nayagarh, Rs 6 lakh in cash, deposits worth Rs 47 lakh, gold jewellery weighing 452 grams, silver ornaments weighing 500 grams, two four-wheelers and three two-wheelers.
“We have calculated the seized properties and he was found to be in possession of assets 132% in excess of his known sources of income,” said a senior vigilance official.
Sahu was placed under arrest after he failed to satisfactorily account for the assets detected during the searches, the official added.

Justice N Anand Venkatesh directed the cases to be restored to Virudhunagar special court for a day-to-day retrial, requiring the ministers to appear before the trial court in early September to execute bonds for their appearance.

Discoms fail to monetise their assets, lose crores

Rajasthan's discoms faced significant financial losses due to failing to collect rentals from cable and telecom operators using electric poles. Despite charges of Rs 3,543 per pole in 2021-22, collections were substantially lower. Additionally, many commercial units reportedly paid lower agriculture rates. The regulator has directed discoms to address these issues and take action against responsible employees.
