NIA issues notice to Akhtar Hussain Khan

CUTTACK: A day after raiding his house and questioning him, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has issued notice to Akhtar Hussain Khan asking him to depose before it on December 4 at its headquarters in Delhi.

The NIA has directed Khan to appear before Ajeet Singh, superintendent of police, (NIA) by 11am on December 4. The notice issued under

section 160 of CrPC

says Khan has to appear before NIA to answer some questions related to a case.

Notably, a team of NIA had raided Khan’s house, located in Samantarapur in Kissan Nagar, in Cuttack district at around 8am on Wednesday and had grilled him for over five hours. Later, they had whisked Khan to the SP (rural) office here and had released him in the evening.

Police sources said the NIA had some intelligence inputs about Khan following which they had raided his house. The NIA has seized Khan’s mobile phone, his bank passbook and few documents recovered from his house.

However, Khan has claimed that he is completely innocent and being harassed unnecessarily by the investigating agency. “I am a poor man and have no links with any

terror outfits

. NIA officers questioned me lot of things about money transactions in my bank account and inquired about few phone numbers. I answered all their questions honestly. They found nothing, still I don’t know why they are harassing me unnecessarily,” said Khan.

“I don’t even have money to visit Delhi. I am innocent. I will take debt to go to Delhi and will cooperate completely with the NIA,” said fifty two year old Khan.

Sources said Khan has received some phone calls from Pakistan in last few months and NIA wants more information about these calls.

Khan was working in a garage in Saudi Arabia for a decade before returning to his village four years ago. Since then he has been staying with his wife and children in Samantarapur village.
