Man gets 7-yr RI for raping teen in 2017

Cuttack: A special Pocso court here on Saturday sentenced a 37-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl six years ago.The judge also awarded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the survivor. The judge, imposing a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, said the amount, if realised, be paid to the survivor. The judge specified the time served by the convict as an undertrial prisoner should be deducted from the sentence.Ramesh Mohanty, special public prosecutor, said the woman belongs to Cuttack district. The incident occurred on February 2, 2017. The trial followed the filing of an FIR by her mother on February 20, 2017. The accused was arrested the same day. The judge directed the compensation sum shall be deposited in the name of the woman in any nationalised bank for six years. The judge also directed the secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Cuttack, for compliance of the order on compensation.

BJP MLA Ramdular Gond convicted: 25 years of rigorous imprisonment in 2014 rape case

The court in Varanasi awarded BJP MLA Ramdular Gond from Duddhi constituency in Sonbhadra district with 25-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 lakh for raping a 15-year-old girl in 2014. Gond was found guilty under sections 376 and 506 of IPC and the POCSO Act. He will lose his assembly membership as per the Supreme Court's 2013 ruling. Gond's wife was the village pradhan at the time of the incident. The survivor managed to return home and reported the incident to her brother, who filed a complaint against Gond.

Man, 55, held in police encounter for raping, killing a 10-year-old girl

A 55-year-old history-sheeter was arrested in Bulandshshr for allegedly raping and killing a 10-year-old girl after abducting her. The girl went missing on December 6 and her body was recovered on December 11 from a sugarcane farm. The accused was arrested in a police encounter in Bulandshahr's Khanpur area. He sustained a gunshot wound in the leg during the gunfight. Bulandshahr Additional SP Shanker Prasad confirmed the arrest.
