Cuttack: The adhoc additional district & sessions judge (fast-track court–II), Cuttack on Thursday sentenced a 37-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl over eight years ago.
Presiding judge Sabita Das also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 on Soumya Ranjan Mohanty while convicting him under different sections of the IPC and Pocso Act.
The judge also awarded a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the survivor keeping in view the facts and circumstances of the case and directed the secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Cuttack for compliance of the order.
Acting upon a complaint lodged by the mother of the girl, police registered a case on August 19, 2015.
According to the prosecution, Soumya kidnapped the girl and kept her in his house for over a months and maintained physical relationship with her, making her pregnant.
