HC rejects 2nd affidavit on fire safety in SCB

Cuttack: The Orissa high court on Thursday hauled up the superintending engineer (roads and buildings), Cuttack, for filing an affidavit “without any application of mind” indicating the timeline for completion of fire safety work in SCB Medical College and Hospital here. On January 3, the hospital superintendent had filed an affidavit which stated that nine months are required to complete the work. But the court rejected it as it was not filed by the competent authority.Accordingly, the superintending engineer (roads and buildings), Cuttack, filed an affidavit, indicating the time of completion as nine months, but efforts shall be made to complete it within six months.The two-judge bench of acting Chief Justice B R Sarangi and Justice M S Raman said, “As it appears, the affidavit was filed by the superintending engineer (roads and bridges) without any application of mind.” It allowed to file a fresh affidavit within two days.

Man held for filing false affidavit before court for bail formalities

A man named Jitendra Kumar was arrested in Bhopal for submitting a false affidavit before the district court. He had appeared to furnish bail formalities for a person accused in a cheating case.

Enforcement drives against bikers without helmets, public awareness during Road Safety month from Jan 15

Mumbai will have special enforcement drives for helmet compliance during the Road Safety month from Jan 15 to Feb 14. There will also be checks on speeding, lane cutting, and other offences. Volunteers will conduct road safety awareness campaigns. District road safety committees will review road safety situation and identify accident-prone areas.
