Justice Singh sworn in as Chief Justice of Orissa high court

Cuttack: Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh was on Wednesday sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Orissa high court. Governor Raghubar Das administered the oath of office at a brief ceremony on the premises of the high court. Justice Singh was earlier the acting Chief Justice of Patna high court.Justice Singh is the 34th Chief Justice of Orissa high court. Justice Subhasis Talapatra, the last Chief Justice, retired on October 3, 2023. Justice B R Sarangi had been officiating as the acting Chief Justice since.Justice Singh was appointed as Patna high court judge on April 5, 2012. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended his appointment as Chief Justice of Orissa high court on November 2, 2023.In the recommendation note, the Supreme Court Collegium said, “As regards his contribution to the judiciary by way of disposal of cases, during his tenure of more than 11 years as a judge of high court, he authored 1,246 reported judgments, of which 562 were delivered during the last 5 years. He has maintained a high standard of professional ethics at the Bar and Bench and enjoys a good reputation for conduct and integrity.”

Union law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments on X. Once Justice Bahri takes oath as the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand high court, two of the 25 high courts in the country will be headed by women.

Centre notifies appointment of Chief Justices of seven different High Courts

The Ministry of Law and Justice has appointed Chief Justices for the High Courts of Meghalaya, Allahabad, Gauhati, Orissa, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Punjab and Haryana. The appointments include Justice S. Vaidyanathan as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court and Justice Arun Bhansali as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.
