HC bins plea on OSFC ‘vacancies’

Cuttack: The Orissa high court on Monday disposed of a PIL filed seven months ago seeking its intervention for filling up the posts of chairman and members in the Odisha State Food Commission after taking on record a notification placed before the court showing all the vacant posts had been filled up. The two-judge bench of acting Chief Justice B R Sarangi and Justice M S Raman disposed of the PIL. Prabir Kumar Das, a high court lawyer, had filed the petition on April 24 pointing out the posts of three of the five OSFC members have stayed vacant since its inception on March 15, 2016. The notifications placed before the court on Monday said all five posts were filled up with the appointments of Dayanidhi Dash, Sanjukta Mohanty, Akshaya Kumar Behera, Priyabrata Samantaray and Premashila Kerketa.

Fill vacant posts: SRMU

Members of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) organized a protest near Madurai railway station demanding filling up of vacant posts of running staff in the Madurai division. They also demanded reducing the work burden while operating special trains during festivals. J M Rafi, the divisional secretary of SRMU, stated that there is a shortage of running staff in the division, with only 163 people available out of the required 182 for passengers trains and 52 out of 62 for goods trains.

HC seeks reply on vacant posts in BHRC

A PIL has been filed against the shortage of staff at the Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC). The Patna high court has sought a reply from the BHRC secretary. 91% of the staff positions at the BHRC are vacant, including crucial positions such as research officers, investigating officers, additional registrar, accountant, stenographer, and clerical cadre staff. These vacancies have left the commission unable to conduct spot inquiries and reduced its effectiveness. The court will reconvene on February 2, 2024.
