OSBC orders fresh polls for affiliate president’s post

Cuttack: The Odisha State Bar Council’s (OSBC) election tribunal has ordered for fresh election for the office of president of Kamkhyanagar Bar Association (KBA).
The three-member tribunal headed by senior advocate Santosh Kumar Pattanaik while issuing the order on December 26 directed for the poll to be held by KBA within 15 days for the balance period of 2023-24. Advocate Ranjan Kumar Rout had first moved the high court after the election officer rejected his nomination papers for the post of president and declared advocate Dharmananda Mallick the only other candidate uncontested through a notification on March 25 .
On September 13, the high court directed OSBC to constitute an election tribunal to undertake hearing on the dispute raised by Rout. Accordingly, the tribunal declared Rout as a valid candidate and ordered for fresh election.TNN
