Cuttack: The Barabati-Cuttack assembly constituency will see two debutants enter the poll fray this time - 32-year-old engineer Sofia Firdous, who is fighting on a BJD ticket, and BJP candidate Dr Purna Chandra Mohapatra, a gynaecologist-turned-politician.Sofia, who is the daughter of Cuttack-Barabati MLA Mohammed Moquim, decided to contest after SC refused to stay the conviction of his father in a loan scam case. She is conducting rallies in the constituency and on Sunday, she was seen going door-to-door, interacting with the people in CDA area. “People seem very happy to be interacting with me,” she said.On the other hand, Dr Mohapatra, 68, conducted a massive bike rally in the CDA Sectors 6,7,9 and 11 areas on Sunday. “ The time has come for a complete transformation of Cuttack. BJD has done nothing substantial in the city. Among other things, the city needs a proper drainage system to get rid of waterlogging,” Dr Mohapatra, who was a professor at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, said.
