Fans oppose steep hike in ticket prices for Ind-Eng ODI

Cuttack: Cricket enthusiasts expressed disappointment over the significant increase in ticket prices for the upcoming One-Day International between India and England at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, scheduled for Feb 9, 2025. The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) announced the revised ticket prices on Sunday, with rates for most galleries exceeding Rs 1,000. This marks a substantial increase from previous matches, drawing criticism from fans eagerly awaiting international cricket’s return to Barabati after a long hiatus.
“Students, who form the majority of spectators, are particularly affected. The ticket prices have nearly doubled from Rs 600-700 to Rs 1,200, making it unaffordable for many,” said Sitanshu Mishra, a cricket enthusiast, leading the protests. Defending the increase, OCA secretary Sanjay Behera told TOI, “Compared to other states, our tickets are still reasonably priced. The revision accounts for inflation over the last three years and increased operational costs.” He added that the prices include GST, and the decision was made after careful consideration by an OCA committee. The OCA aims to generate Rs 4.75 crore in revenue through ticket sales to cover match-day expenses at the 44,524-capacity stadium.
