3 of a family in hospital after suicide bid

Cuttack: Three members of a family attempted suicide by consuming poison, police said. The incident took place at their house at Sector-6 in Cuttack’s CDA area. The father and son are stable but the mother is critical and admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.The three persons were identified as Uttam Charan Panda (84) and his wife Sarojini Panda (73) and his son, Soumya Ranjan Panda (40). They are natives of Ganjam district and they stay in Cuttack on rent. Their house owner alerted the police after he did not hear from them since Friday morning. A police team broke open the door and found the three lying unconscious inside. Though financial crisis is the likely cause behind the extreme step, police are probing the case.

Kolkata police managed to save a 20-year-old man who was livestreaming his suicide attempt on Facebook after receiving a tip-off from a concerned friend. The police tracked down his location in Behala and intervened, convincing him to abandon his plan. The man's mother expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, which ended around 4 am on Saturday.

Police probe death of college student who attempted suicide over test scores

A 16-year-old second-year intermediate student from the ST Lambada community in Hyderabad passed away after attempting suicide due to low scores in weekly tests. The incident occurred at her college hostel in Kothapet. Despite being shifted to multiple hospitals, she succumbed to her injuries. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Highest electoral violence in Cuttack, 8 districts report nil cases: Odisha Assembly data

During the 2024 simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha, 316 cases of electoral violence were registered, with Cuttack district reporting the highest. Eight districts reported no violence. Elections were held between May 13 and June 1, and the code of conduct was in effect from March 16 to June 6.
