Cuttack: A 62-year-old man was on Thursday sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of 20 years for kidnapping and raping a teenager in Cuttack district two years ago.The sentence pronounced by the ad hoc additional district & sessions judge (fasttrack court – I), Cuttack. The presiding judge, P K Das, also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Bhuja Bhoi while convicting him under different sections of Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.The judge further awarded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the rape survivor. Special public prosecutor Suvendra Prasad Mohanty presented the case for prosecution. The incident took place in Cuttack district on May 15, 2022. Bhuja kidnapped the girl, who was 13 years old at the time, when she was out to relieve herself and took her to a nearby ashram, where he used to work as a labourer and raped her there.The next day the girl’s mother filed a complaint and police registered a case, and filed a chargesheet on July 7, 2022. Bhuja was arrested on July 18, 2022, and was since been in jail. The period already spent in jail by the convict as an undertrial prisoner be deducted from the sentence of 20 years, the judge also specified in the order of sentence.
