Cuttack: Santosh Kumar Mishra, Director Medical Education and Training (DMET), on Wednesday visited SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and began a probe into the alleged
rape of two women patients by a senior resident doctor of cardiology department on Sunday.
Mishra heads a three-member committee formed by the health department to probe the allegations against accused doctor Dilbag Singh Thakur, who was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday.
Mishra said the inquiry team had a preliminary round of discussions with doctors and staff to understand the alleged crime and sequence of events. “A report will be submitted to the govt after proper enquiry into the matter and accordingly the govt will take steps,” Mishra said.
Apart from court proceedings, the govt is likely to remove him from the senior residency programme. The alleged assault comes at a time when doctors across the state and country have been protesting against the rape and murder of a medico at a govt hospital in Kolkata and demanding their safety.
Meanwhile, the accused doctor’s wife claimed he has been framed and a conspiracy was made to ruin his career. “He was to receive his degree next month. There is a conspiracy. Police delayed in receiving his complaint after hospital staff brutally thrashed my husband,” she alleged, adding police lodged a case two days later.
Anil Mishra, additional deputy commissioner of police said the allegation made by his wife against the police is false.
