Cuttack cops stop parking on multiple roads to ease traffic

Cuttack: To ensure smooth flow of traffic, commissionerate police on Wednesday stopped parking on multiple roads here. Hefty fines will be imposed on violators apart from the towing expenses, police sources said.The roads are from Madhupatna Chhak to Badambadi, both sides of road from Manimandir Chhak to judicial academy, Ranihat to Khannagar Chhak, OMP Chhak to CRRI police station as well as SCB Chhak to clock tower. Seventeen other roads, including Balubazar, Buxi Bazar, Jail Road, Chaudhury Bazar Chhak, Balubazar Chhak, High Court Chhak, Biju Patnaik Chhak and Howrah Motor, have also been marked as no parking zones.“A team has been engaged to detect violators in different stretches. Signboards will be installed near roads to create awareness among people,” said commissioner of police Sanjeeb Panda. Parking of vehicles is a perennial problem in Cuttack, which is a very congested city. “The problem is acute from Madhupatana to Badambadi Road, which does not have a single designated parking lot,” said Sanjit Giri, a resident of Bajrakabati Road. “Places like Jail Road, Dargah Bazar and Buxi Bazar are major shopping areas of Cuttack. Many malls have also come up in these areas but there is very little space for parking of vehicles forcing people to park on the roads,” said Elina Pradhan of Buxi Bazar. The authorities must provide designated parking spaces in these areas before introducing such a rule, she added.
