Cuttack for prohibition of sex determination test

CUTTACK: Cuttack district collector Arvind Agarwal on Thursday directed health officials to ensure the implementation of the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique (PCPNDT) Act to ensure prohibition of unauthorised sex determination tests here.
While presiding over a review meeting of the district PCPNDT advisory committee, Agarwal wanted the health officials to conduct periodic raids on ultrasound units to check sex determination.
He further stressed the need for creating awareness on the PCPNDT Act which aims to improve the regulation of technology used in sex determination. It is expected to regulate the use of pre-natal diagnostic techniques like ultrasound by allowing their use only to detect genetic abnormalities, metabolic disorders, chromosomal abnormalities, certain congenital malformations and sex linked disorders, said an officer.
