Cuttack: Historic evolution of Odia cinema will take centre stage at this year’s Bali Yatra, with a special exhibition planned at the maritime festival starting Nov 15 in Cuttack.A dedicated enclosure on the lower grounds of Bali Yatra, along the banks of the Mahanadi, will chronicle the journey of Ollywood — the Odia film industry that has been an integral part of Indian cinema for over six decades.“Ollywood represents a significant segment of Indian cinema, producing films in Odia, the primary language of Odisha,” said Cuttack collector Dattatraya Shinde. “The industry, centered in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, has played a crucial role in shaping the cultural landscape of our state,” he said.The specially-designed pavilion will highlight milestone films, legendary directors, and actors who have contributed to the industry’s growth. Interactive displays will narrate Odia cinema’s evolution from its humble beginnings in Cuttack to its present-day prominence.District culture officer Nalinikanta Sahoo revealed that more than 40 artisans are working to create an immersive experience for visitors. “The pavilion will feature replicas of old theatres, tributes to acclaimed actors and actresses, and showcases of award-winning movies,” he said.

6 injured in clash during Kali idol immersion procession in Cuttack

Chaos erupted in Cuttack's Chandnichowk area during a Goddess Kali idol immersion procession Sunday night. A heated argument between two groups escalated into a violent clash, leaving six injured and property damaged.
