435 cases pending in Odisha courts against MPs, MLAs since 1991

Cuttack: Altogether 435 cases are pending against MPs and MLAs in Odisha after disposal of eight cases in January 2024. The number of cases instituted during this period was 20.
Reports received by the Orissa high court here from district & sessions judges of all 30 districts indicated that cases registered in 1991 were pending in Koraput district, while cases dating back to 1998 were pending in Khurda and Sundargarh districts.
Of the 435 cases pending before different designated courts, only 69 cases reached the trial stage. While 86 cases were pending in Khurda, Sambalpur and Koraput followed by 55 and 51 cases respectively. Next in the list were Ganjam (50), Sundargarh (41) and Cuttack (36).
During January, cases were instituted in Nayagarh (5), Sambalpur (6), Koraput (3), Keonjhar (4), Dhenkanal (1) and Cuttack (1) districts. While four cases were disposed of in Sambalpur district, disposal of one each was reported from Balasore, Balangir, Cuttack, and Ganjam districts in January, the reports said. Earlier, in pursuance of a SC direction, the HC had registered a suo motu case and directed judges to furnish statement showing institution, disposal, and pendency of the cases.

A special CBI court held that the magistrate's rejection of the closure report in the bank fraud case against BJP leader Mohit Kamboj was not legal. The judge mentioned Tenet Exim Pvt Ltd, Central Bank of India, false documents, and the diversion of funds.
